10 Inspiring Scriptures for Parenting: Nurturing a Bond That Lasts

Children need guidance and encouragement.

Parenting has been one the hardest and one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It comes with many ups and downs, laughter and tears, worries and happiness but it also produces a special bond between parents and their children.


As our children grow into adults the relationship can change into a loving bond which shares a mutual respect and understanding for what it means to be a family in the good times and the bad.


There are days when we are proud of our young children and their actions and days when we feel as if everything we have taught them has been tossed aside.


Understanding our roles as parents can be difficult. In our teens or twenties, while still trying to understand what it means to be the kind of person we want to be, we can find ourselves responsible for the care of the most innocent among us. That care includes not only their physical need of food and clothing, but character development, understanding right from wrong, and their spiritual development.


We are not perfect. We make mistakes. We can only do our best and pray for help, understanding, and the insight needed to raise our children in a loving and caring environment with God at the center.


Below are 10 inspiring scriptures for parenting which can help us focus on our children and the need to work with them as they grow. I encourage you to print these scriptures off and read them often. Take time to consider how each scripture might apply to your family, your children as individuals, and your parenting style and needs. Pray for guidance and wisdom.


 

 

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go: when he is old, he will not depart from it.


Ephesians 6:4

Fathers do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.


Deuteronomy 6:6-7

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. Teach them to your children and talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise.


Psalm 127:3-5

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them.


Proverbs 20:11

Even a child makes himself known by his acts, by whether his conduct is pure and upright.


Proverbs 3:11-12

My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.


Ephesians 6:1-3

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father mother, (this is the first commandment with a promise) that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.


2 Timothy 3:15

…and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation trough faith in Christ Jesus.


Matthew 18:10

See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.


Deuteronomy 4:9

Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children-


Proverbs 20:17

The righteous who walks in his integrity – blessed are his children after him!
