Inviting God into the Everyday: Finding Divine Presence in the Small Moments

God wants to hear from us.

How involved is God in your life? Most of us go to Him in prayer about the big things. We pray for those who are sick or injured. We pray for our loved ones. We might pray for the right job or to find the right house. Those are all good things to pray about.

What about the little things you find to be difficult, frustrating, confusing, or chaotic on a daily basis? Inviting God into our everyday life and seeking Him, even in the mundane, can change your relationship with Him.

Young children can become frustrated when learning to tie their shoes, zip up a jacket, or ride a bike. We work with them. We care about their feelings. We encourage them and support them, giving them the help they need to succeed.

God might be the Creator of the universe, the One who gives life and sustains it, but He feels the same way about us. He cares about those things that impact us, even the comparably small things.

When we first begin involving Him in the smaller things in our life it can seem at little silly. We might feel odd going to the King of Kings and asking for help understanding the instructions on how to put together a piece of furniture. Or, maybe just looking at the pile of laundry waiting for us, makes us want to close the door to the laundry room and walk away. Does God really care about the small stuff?

Yes, He does. He cares about our lives.

The closer we become to Him the more natural it feels to involve Him in everything. He wants to be a part of our lives. He wants to know we want Him involved. He has a desire to be connected to us throughout our day.

Below are a few ways you can include him in your daily life and draw closer to Him in the process.

  • Take the time to thank Him throughout the day, even for the small things. It only takes a few seconds to give Him praise and thanks for the friend who just sent you a card, the rain that is falling on your garden, or the sunset in all its beauty.

  • Ask for His help when the house is in chaos and you don’t even know where to begin on cleaning day. Ask him to help you focus and show you the best place to start. Continue involving Him and asking for His guidance until you can see through the chaos and are able to breathe again.

  • If you are standing in front of the freezer with the door open and struggling to come up with something for dinner, ask Him. He knows exactly what you have in the freezer and in your pantry. It might seem like a trivial matter to you but He does care.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

If it is weighing on you and taking up space in your head, God wants to hear from you, no matter how small it might seem. If it is beautiful and feels like a gift, He wants to know you appreciate it and are grateful for what He has blessed you with. If it is troubling you, He wants to know. Nothing is too small for Him.

There are many ways to connect with Him throughout your day. If it feels odd to you, start there. Begin by asking Him to help you find the ways to connect with Him, to learn to pray in the moment, giving thanks and asking for help without hesitation throughout your day. He will answer you.

By choosing to connect with Him throughout our day we will discover going to Him at a moment’s notice is easier than ever before. We will learn to rely on that connection because we have seen Him get involved in our life and help us even in those small matters. We will begin to see how much He truly cares and wants to be involved. He will become more real to us than He might have ever seemed before.

This kind of connection is faith building. When we realize the King of Kings cares about the little things in life, we begin to rely on Him more and more for the big things in life.

We are the children of a great God. He cares about those things you care about. What a blessing that is!
