Let's Talk About Eve

Updated: 3 hours ago

Eve was the first woman, wife, mother, and even grandmother. She was the first woman to walk upon the Earth, the first to give birth, and the first to lose a child. She is known around the world for one thing, she ate from the wrong tree. That one act seems to define her, but does it really?

Everyone has their own thoughts and ideas when it comes to Eve. They might see her as the mother of all. Maybe they see her more as a character from a story long ago, passed down through the ages. They think of her as the woman who brought pain and suffering into the world by disobeying God. At least that seems to be the gist of it all. Most people don’t stop to think about her as a real person.

As we read through the Bible, we are introduced to people we know by name. We know them only by the stories the Bible tells about them, their families, their actions, and the impact they might have had on those around them. We learn about their relationship with God and how He interacted with them, but do we truly think about them as real people?

Eve lived in a time like no other. In the beginning she lived in a garden, prepared especially for her and her husband Adam by God. She enjoyed beauty and splendor we can only dream about. Do we read about her life and really consider who she was as a person, or have we relegated her to the role of being the main character in a story told to children?

Have you ever considered what you might have in common with her? It might be more than most women realize. As I began to research for this book, I found myself asking questions about her life I had never considered before. While there isn’t a lot in scripture about her life, what we do know can offer some insight. By putting ourselves into her situation we might begin to see her in ways we never have before.
